In my group we talked about the kind of organization that we were going to use in our papers, and all the sources we had. We talked about how our interviews went and compared them to each others. The people in my group told me which questions and answers to use in my paper and which ones that I would need to expand on.

analysis of sources

For one of my recourses I am going to use an article about the spreading of flu, and how we people can prevent it. The reason I chose this one is because it was an example of an article trying to get people involved in the prevention of the flu, and the spread of health. It is also giving you the most commonly found spreaders of sicknesses, to the people most likely to attract the disease.

Another one of my sources is an article about the crazy amount of deaths due to lung cancer in Europe. They say that the number of deaths from lung cancer are outnumbering the deaths due to breast cancer.

The 3rd article that I chose was one that was explaining the dangers of smoking, and ways that people addicted to the nicotine would be able to fix it due to a new program created by the affordable care act. The reason why I chose these articles is because I feel like they do a good job at representing what kind of writing is done in public health. And two of them offer suggestions to healthier decisions.

interview analysis

My interview went very well. It worked out perfectly because I had already contacted an adviser from the public health field, to just get a better understanding of the major as a whole. Then it just so worked out that she let me go ahead and interview her as well. The interview did not take very long because when I asked the very first question, she answered about 4 in one. So rather than me asking all my questions, I really only asked about 3-4 question. But that was helpful because she was really able to answer very thoroughly and was able to explain it in good detail. basically the main question that I asked was just "what kind of writing do you usually do in your field?" She gave me plenty of examples of writing that is done in all kinds of public health fields. But she said that her writing specifically in her area of work were somewhat persuasive, or trying to either convince or turn people away from becoming a public health major. She said that she likes being able to persuade people into the major, or at least helping people figure out that the major is not for them.  So her typical audience would be students, but occasionally other faculty, because public health is very interconnected to really any science fields, so like nursing, dental hygiene, anthropology, and other social science fields. But coming from her I would assume that most public health careers, the type of writing that is involved would mostly be some kinds of informational reports. Because they are trying to spread the word not only to students but to people all around the world about public health, most of it is informational.

Graff Art of Quoting #2 response

One of my papers that I wrote for English 101 was a rhetorical analysis paper. I chose this one because I probably used the most quotations in it. One of them was, "does a more equal marriage mean less sex?" I used this quote because I felt like it did the best job at explaining my entire paper. It asked the main question of my paper, and it helped me explain the other points of view in the article. I also used this quote because in the article that I chose to write my paper on, the very first person to be mentioned was one of the first people to ask this question.

Another quote I used in a different paper I wrote, was one from a Lilly Allen video. “You’ll find me in the studio and not in the kitchen.” This was used to analyze Lilly's point of view about gender roles and gender stereotypes that are present today and have been for awhile. I used this quote to also help explain my point of view, and how I personally take that stereotype very personally and I think it is very offensive. both of these quotes helped me shape and organize my paper. They allowed me to expand more on the subject I was writing about.

1st source: public health article 1/22/15

The source that I picked was an article on public health talking about whether or not a gluten free diet was healthier for you than eating gluten. The article was an informational one, just giving some facts (mostly negative) about gluten and where it comes from. It will help me with my paper because I will be able to ask specific questions more related to health that I was unable to think of before I read the article. The source doesn't give me much information about writing in public health specifically, but it gave me an understanding of what the majority of the writing done in that field is like.
